Why cant you use the combi stick and disc blade on avp xbox360?

hi does anyone know why because at the end of the game there's only robots that you can kill with the combi stick and its really doin my head cause its brilliant a 1 hit kill so i wanna try it on the first mission but you only get the plasma caster any help would be really nice thank you :)
