How does he feel? (i take things too far alot, so help is appreciated)?

I see him maybe twice a year (he is my moms caterers son) and he has told his mom (the caterer) that he thinks I have gotten pretty (I am 3 years younger, were both teenagers) which is something he doesn't say to everyone. he also said my name after hello and goodbye. And he hugged me (he's really polite though and hugs my mom and everyone too. Both my mom and his think we would be a really cute couple. But I think if he liked me he would ask for my number or something, because we don't talk barely. so I'm not sure if he just thinks I'm pretty and told his mom cause he's nice or if she solicited for it or what. so what do you think? casual friendship or quiet crush or something else?
