In Alien I whose ship was crash landed in the movie.?

I know that it was alien ship but who do you think it belonged to and do you think the creature of the movie ever had any plans for it like back story. say for instance the aliens were created. But now most likely with AVP he will probably say oh that was a predator ship. Even though the movie was made wayyyyyy before the idea for AVP came up.
